After-School Programs - 2017-18  

After School Programs will be announced by September 1st.

We are currently hiring an After School Coordinator.

 Registration 

Please fill out and submit our class registration form, and then either email it to info@athenaeumlearning.org, or mail it to 15 Columbia Road, Pembroke MA 02359.  If you are emailing this form, please make sure to  save it to your computer after filling out, and attach the saved version to your email.​​  You will be sent an e-invoice, which can be paid either online by credit card or bank transfer, or in person by check or cash.  Financial aid and payment plans are available. 

 Mondays 
Homework Club

Students from other schools are invited to bring their homework to our daily after-school homework club.  They can work on it under the supervision of our professional teachers, using our extensive library of books, math manipulatives, and other educational tools as necessary.  When they finish, they are welcome to join the other classes happening that afternoon, or they may work in our makerspace, browse our library, or work on independent educational projects.  

  • Daily, 3:30pm-5:30pm.  $10 per hour.

Although this is a drop-in class, a heads-up that your child plans to attend is appreciated to ensure adequate staffing.  On your first visit, you will need to fill out a registration form.

Science Faire (K-8th grade)

Students will explore the wild world of science through fun, tactile experiments.  Topics included may include earth science, chemical reactions, oceanography, nature exploration, and more.  3:30-5:00 $185

 Tuesdays 
 
Girl Scouts

Although this isn't an official after-school class, the Athenaeum Learning Center will be the meeting place of a weekly, multi-age Girl Scout troop for students from Kindergarten through 6th Grade (though 8th grade if there is sufficient interest).

Artistic Expressions (K-8th grade)

Students will draw, paint, build, and create!  Each week will have a different theme, and students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of subjects, styles, and media.  Students will work on their own, unique projects, allowing them to progress and practice at their own pace.  3:30-5:00 $185

Movie Making (4th-8th grade)

Students willy storyboard, shoot, and edit their own movie shorts.  They’ll learn about pre-production, directing, screenwriting, adding music and sound effects, and more.  Students will come home with a DVD of their final movie at the end of the 11-week session.  All equipment will be provided.   3:30-5:00.  $350.

Creative Writing Circles (K-8th grade)

Students will follow weekly themes to write, draw, and play act stories.  Younger children will concentrate on storytelling and illustrating, while older children will write complex stories that are shared and critiqued.  This is a fun, low-key class that encourages creative thinking and imagination.  3:30-5:00

  • Thursdays, September 13th-November 29th.  3:30-5:00.  $150

 Fridays 
Game Play (1st-8th grade)

Pokemon!  Minecraft!  Magic: The Gathering!  Board Games!  Dungeons & Dragons!  Come for an afternoon of fun and games, hosted by our resident Game Mavens.  Minecraft play during this class is based around a specific building or engineering challenge, and to ensure that everyone has a chance to participate, students will be assigned to play Minecraft for either the first or the second hour.  

  • Fridays, September 14-November 30th (no class on October 5th or November 23rd)

    • 3:30-5:30 - $185

    • Just the first hour: $110

    • Just the second hour: $110

    • Drop-in Rate: $20 per 2 hour session

Kids' Night In (1st-8th grade)

Remember that our Kids' Night In program happen two Fridays an evening: many after-school students stay for this evening of pizza, movies, and more gaming!  For more information, click here.
