Homeschool Short Classes - Fall, 2018

Our Homeschool "Short Classes" allow greater flexibility for homeschooling families than our full-day homeschooling program.  Children can register for a variety of 1-2 hour classes that run weekly for a trimester period.  All classes are drop-off.  Many classes will be a mix of students attending a short course, homeschooled students attending a full day, and full-time Athenaeum students.

With a few exceptions, elementary and middle school students are in grade-based, and not age-based, groupings because the ability of a child to enjoy and fully participate in each class is largely dependent on their ability and interest.  If you have any questions about your child's ability to participate in a class, please ask us.  Students are always welcome to try out a class for free before committing to it.

  • Fall I Session: September 10-November 2nd (No classes from October 5th-9th)

  • Fall II Session: November 5th-December 21st (No classes on November 11th, or November 21st-23rd)

  • Winter Session: January 7th-March 14th (No classes January 18th-21st)

  • Spring Session: March 28th-June 14th (No classes May 24th-27th)

Our full-day students have lunch from 12:15-1:15, and Short Course students are welcome to come for lunch: arriving anytime after 12:15 for afternoon classes, and being picked up by 1:00 for morning classes.  We find that when Short Course students have the opportunity to play and form friendships with our full-day students, they have a more positive classroom experience.  Please note that all food must be nut-free.

 Registration

Please fill out and submit our class registration form, and then either email it to info@athenaeumlearning.org, or mail it to 15 Columbia Road, Suites 4 & 5, Pembroke MA 02359.  If you are emailing this form, please make sure to  save it to your computer after filling out, and attach the saved version to your email.  You will be sent an e-invoice, which can be paid either online by credit card or bank transfer, or in person by check or cash.  Financial aid and monthly payment plans are available: please contact us for more information.

 What to Bring

Please label EVERYTHING!

  • A reusable water bottle: we have a water cooler that students can use for refills.  Paper cups are only dispensed after a lecture about the environmental cost of disposable cups.

  • A nut-free snack and/or lunch (if your child will be at Athenaeum for snack or lunch).

  • Clothes to go outdoors in.  We go outdoors every day, sometimes for classes and sometimes to play, and it gets muddy!

    • Coat, hat, gloves.

    • Boots.  Please, unless it is a bone-dry warm day, send your child in boots!  It gets cold and muddy outside.  This goes for ALL AGES: older elementary and middle school students often balk at being asked to wear boots, but they quickly decide it's a good idea when they get here.  Your child is welcome to bring indoor shoes or slippers to wear inside.

    • Snowpants/rainpants.  If there's any chance that it's wet or muddy outside, please send them with snow or rain pants.  Again, it's the older kids who balk, and the older kids whose parents we're calling after one game of Red Rover to bring a pair of dry pants.  Even if your child is resisting, just pack the pants and let us convince them to put them on.

    • We strongly suggest that your child bring a change of pants and socks, in case the clothes they're wearing get wet.  Again, it's usually the older kids who are playing more roughly, are less likely to be wearing snow pants, and who need to change.  Nobody can be expected to learn in cold, wet socks!
